Absolutely right Dodie! I’m one that doesn’t mind looking like an idiot from time to time, and I certainly can laugh at myself!! I have become good friends with some Ecuadorean’s, who most speak some English. We’ve taken trips together, and I’m often surprised at how easy it is for me to make them laugh! I’m innocently saying things that double…[Read more]

I know a young man who wants to major in Art! He took the University entrance exams……which put him in the law degree. He went one semester….hated it! His parents are fortunate enough for him to go to a private college out of Ecuador. Nursing, Engineering (ALL kinds!) law and medicine….are examples of the careers that are available!…[Read more]

I left out an important word….that the University may NOT be able to pursue their chosen interests….but have to accept studying a career not of their choice! That’s not freedom of choice if you are accepting “free education” and are steered into the governments direction!

My observation is that in order for a college student, he/she may have the opportunity to do what their heart desires as a career choice, because you are tested and directed into the jobs that the government feels is necessary!! If you want the “free” education…you must get the degrees THEY want! Otherwise…PAY for it!

Thanks!!! This hit me right where it hurts!! Sometimes the truth does that! I’ve been “Taken” big time…..and then did it again, on a smaller scale…..but just as upsetting! Making me feel very foolish!! I seem to have to learn the hard way…..ALWAYS! And…..I’m going on five years in my new country!!

This was horrible to read! My 84 year old husband died two years ago…January 16! I had a newly formed “Hospice” support in Cuenca, my pastor, and did notarized documents two months ahead of time….to smooth hubby’s transition! STILL…..when he died here at home, the ambulance I called wouldn’t take a “dead body”! They were wanting an…[Read more]

I’m a natural born lover and giver! Grew up that way, and sometimes worried my parents to death! I was the one wh wondered off from the guides lecture and got lost in Haga Sofia in Istanbul…..but had an absolutely wonderful and memorable experience! Problem with that, is I get taken advantage of,occasionally.

No one mentioned the U.S. Has the largest incarceration of people, in the WORLD! The Prison Capital of the world! Also one of very few countries with death penalty! Another nice stat to add!

This is SUCH an important lesson for us to learn!! I am afraid I’m guilty of doing this “stuff” thing, but with older young people! It’s a mistake and it’s done harm to both them and me! Any idea how to “undo” such a mistake of being so material….and because you can afford to do something, disregarding the consequences to everyone evolved!?

Great question which has plagued me for the 4-years I’ve been here! Along with……What’s with the Tang!! Hadn’t seen that stuff so plentiful since the early 60’s! And all the margarine!! Same questions……

As a woman who spent her entire adult life, in ministry, I absolutely agree with your assessment! I have been part of providing free clothing and food, via pantry’s and store fronts in inner city U.S. And you are spot on!! We will continue to give money from our church!

Wow, I guess we did everything wrong! Brought the largest container they had. Two dogs came with us on the three month due dillegence trip…went back to the states, then back again for the permanent move! I will say, that my husband and our lawyer, Carlos Heredia did most all the details, so I shouldn’t brag! My his and died here,…[Read more]

I worked for years as a PT for the military. Wound care was my CE specialty. I still….carry a couple tampons in my back pack for gunshot or puncture wounds! Tampons will expand and put pressure on a seriously bleeding would, and leave your hands free for other things!

Ken, I had the same reaction! What a jaded way to think that there are professional people who wake up every morning saying…”Let’s make more people sick and poise on their food supply today!! What a GOOD idea!” Smh…..

There are things about the 21st Century that will ruin Ecuador in my opinion! When we moved here, going on four years ago now, I mentioned to our Abagado….”This sure doesn’t feel like a Third World, in Cuenca!” However, living and learning what makes Ecuador the truly magical place it is…..has to do with keeping the “old ways” “traditions”…[Read more]
